Just noticed this wonderful young afrobeat band at Ronnie Scott’s May 8th
Now how can I manage to get there? Take some unpaid leave maybe. The band is focused around 3 young Nigerian women who comprise a stonking horn section in a band designed to get you dancing.
Get in touch if you are interested in making the trek up there too.
Sorry Tiverton but the band were coming from across the South West and we are all snowed in! Hopefully book a new date soon.
Managed to get Ali around my Piano at my mum’s house last night. Just wanted to get a quick demo done. Visuals leave a little to be desired as the sun was going down. Only had time for two takes and the second one did the trick. Even then I fade out the ending because our joint cadenza felt a little shaky. Anyway negative nonsense aside it was nice to play on an acoustic piano for a change and I think it came out OK.
We now have to work on tightening it all up. Maybe even drop it a tone or two.
Janey and I are going to create regular circle singing groups for which we are willing to travel generally in the South West UK. To this end, we want to go and participate in some regular Circle Singing groups that already exist.
If you have any leads that we could follow up please let me know. We can travel to London or further and are both going to Northern France/ Belgium for the first two weeks of April. Already scoped out one in Liege. Getting excited!

The wonderful Bass player Barry Cohen invited me to be part of the Devon Afrobeat Collective as musical director and keyboard player. 2 Rehearsals down the line and we are starting to think about gigs.
Our starting point is a handful of Fela Kuti numbers and we are working out from there. Watch out for us in your neighbourhood soon.
